Interior Design Trends 2021

What a year 2020 was! Now that we are coming to the end of February, we are excited to share some interior design trends for 2021.

Expectedly, the need for calm and tranquillity within the home is prevalent, as many of us are spending more time at home, than ever. Having a sense of calm, tranquillity and serenity though natural textures and calm colours is so popular right now. We are seeing a lot of grey and beige, representing calming colour palettes and beige is most definitely the comeback queen for 2021. We have seen various shades of grey in the past number of years and we are thrilled that this year the PANTONE Colour of the Year is PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, two independent colours that highlight how different elements come together to support one another.

PANTONE refers them as “Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the union of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is one of strength and positivity. It is a story of colour that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly. A message of happiness supported by fortitude, the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit”. www.pantone.com

As international travel is a no-go, we are excited to see tropical getaways (think Hawaii, Bora Bora, Fiji and the Maldives) as they represent distant shores and tropical delights. Our homes are now our retreats and this gorgeous trend is just beginning to kick off and we look forward to seeing how our clients incorporate this into their interior design. Featuring lots of tropical greens and soft lemons, this theme is bringing the outdoors, in.

Bringing more plants into the home is a huge trend right now and we are seeing gorgeous tropical designs and features popping up everywhere, from cushions, rugs, artwork and one-of-a-kind pieces throughout the home.

There is so much light and brightness in the current interior design trends and why not, we cannot travel, so why not make our spaces at home holiday-worthy!

PRO TIP: If you are looking to add a tropical feel to your home this year, the best place to introduce this theme is through soft furnishings, such as cushions. You can go with the black and white patterns and sit them against block colours like the yellow and green, or go straight to the literal influences, such as palm trees, plants and pineapples. It really is a personal choice and you can never go wrong bringing tropical pieces to your home. We are seeing a lot of cocktail/drink carts featured this year also and what could be more glamourous and Instagram holiday-worthy than your own cocktail cart to mix your favourite drinks. Mojito anyone?
