Why we love White Interiors

At The Interior Designer, our love affair with white interiors is undeniable. There is a fine line between a stunning, beautiful white space and a boring, sterile white-out room, so we have listed some of our favourite tips for a white interior.

One of the main reasons we love white interiors is that is gives such a calming and simple feel to a room, and acts as a blank canvas that will allow for other pieces in the home to shine. If you are looking for a serene and calming space, white interiors is definitely the way to go.

The key to incorporating white is to focus on textures and tones that complements and contrasts with the starkness. We recommend you to use contrasts within a white room and you can do this in many ways. Perhaps by adding timber in the form of warm timber floorboards or timber wall features. To ensure that your room doesn’t look like an all-white hospital room, we love the idea of adding bold pops of colour or patterns in your furniture and artwork. This depth and contrast of colour will add character and warmth to your white interior.

Paint selection is one of the most important decisions you will make when choosing the shade of white. We encourage you to sample the paint colours when looking at options and look at them in natural light at different times of the day. It is important to note that what looks good on paper does not always translate into your interior. Try a handful of different hues and focus on the undertones. They can have touches of yellow, blues or pinks and the surroundings in your interior can affect the temperature of the light.
For example, one white can be a lush, warm ivory white that works beautifully with all kinds of colour schemes. Alternatively there is an ultra-pure white that creates a clean and contemporary look. This vivid white paint will brighten any space. Even though they both are white paints, they will look very different once painted onto your walls, so looking at them at different times of the day is key.
