Choosing The Right Colours For Every Room In Your Home

Choosing the colour palettes for your home can be a stressful experience, but it really doesn’t need to be. You want your home to look like a cohesive space with the colours you pick, and you don’t want the colours you see in another room to clash with the colours of the room you’re in. A few tips for choosing colours for various spaces in your home are:

Start with your largest central space –

If you have open space, start with your largest or most centrally located room. In this room, you’ll be able to see various other spaces in your home, and you’ll want the entire area to blend together with the colours you choose. In this central space, it’s a good idea to go with lighter or more neutral colours. This will not only make it look larger, but allow your colours to move from room to room with ease.

Keep the same neutrals in connective spaces –

Hallways that connect this central area to other areas should be kept the same neutral shades as your main space. These colours can be lighter or darker, but most of all, keeping them similar helps the eye to travel naturally.

Focus on one bold –

If you’re able to see multiple rooms from one central area, you don’t want to choose different bold colours for each space you see. Go with one bold colour you like, and play with the various hues of this colour in other rooms visible from that room.

Use steps as a breaking point –

For your upstairs versus downstairs, you can really switch it up. Use color palettes that are completely different from your upstairs, while using this is an opportunity to use another bold colour you love to use as the base of your upstairs palette.
